The Application of Business Sense

All ERP Vendors struggle to provide the accounts department with timely on-line summary information. Why? The reason is that databases used by ERP software are written using Relational Database Technology, which can’t summarise the data quickly enough. Typically, the first ‘solution’ is to go to paper-based reporting. Report writers are difficult to use, need IT skills, are slow to run and can’t drill down to the underlying transaction data for further analysis. What’s more, by the time you have specified, designed and run it, the data has moved on and the report is out of date.

For these reasons many companies are turning to Business Intelligence tools to provide summary information. However, there is also a flaw with this solution. With many of these tools the data has to be duplicated to an OLAP database, a newer type of database that has been designed to analyse summary information. Normally this transfer is run overnight, with the result that a journal entry entered at 9.00am can’t be seen until that night, when the transfer and calculation of that day’s data into the OLAP cube is run. This means that it can take up to 24 hours for the journal to show up on a report, often rendering the report meaningless to the user.

The Really Real Time ® Inquiry Suite from the GL Company is the first “Accounting Intelligence” solution. It will change the way you close your month end forever. There are five key areas that differentiate Really Real Time from report writers and Business

Intelligence tools:

Flash Reporting Cycle.
This is the hectic period 5 days before and 5 days after the month end close. Business Unit Managers and Accountants want up to the second information at a summary and detail level.

Accountants not IT drive the system.
Really Real Time has been designed so that accountants can build their own inquires, and not have to rely on an overstretched IT department.

Virtual OLAP.
The product gives businesses the ability to look at any combination of the 300+ dimensions in the General Level at any level. These dimensions can be consolidated and pivoted just by using point and click.

Online Inquiries and Publishing.
All inquiries are online and run very quickly. Inquiries have been built to run in seconds, while the same inquiry can take ERP report writers minutes or hours to run and Business Intelligence tools, days. The end user can easily share these inquiries with other users.

Really Real Time.
The product is truly real time. When you buy a Business Intelligence solution you have to “stage” (transfer) the summary and transactional data to another database. All inquiries in Really Real Time can drill-down and drill-across to transactional or other summary data.

The Really Real Time® Inquiry Suite is available in two releases – Standard Edition and Enterprise Edition and both can be run over World and EnterpriseOne.

The Standard Edition focuses exclusively on the general ledger providing all the essential features required to run inquiries and to drill down to transactions, Really Real Time.

The Enterprise Edition expands upon the standard edition, providing Really Real Time inquiry capability over fixed assets and job costing, in addition to the general ledger module. It also provides a whole range of additional features such as real time hierarchy building, the ability to display multiple inquiries, user favourites, flash report styling and formatting, extended transactional inquiries and many more features to assist you during the month end close process.
